Description

Description: Go beyond โ€œI do, we do, you doโ€. More thinking, less process.

This bundle includes material to take students from understanding the definition of a function, function notation, domain and range to more complex concepts of composite functions and inverse functions, including an application investigation involving department store coupons. This bundle meets the needs of diverse capabilities.

Includes the following resources:

1.Functions: Introduction This lesson can be used to introduce students to functions, or as a review of how to recognize a function from a chart, set of points, and a graph. Students work through examples using tables, point coordinates and graphs. Reflection questions are provided at that end to reinforce the concepts. Check Your Understanding problems to reinforce the concepts.

2.Functions: Solve, Domain, Range This lesson can be used to introduce students to function notation, domain and range. 4 pages of notes that can be used as part of the lesson, as review, or for students who require a copy of the notes. Thin Sliced problems, a Reflection page, and Check Your Understanding problems, are also included.

3.Functions: Composite This lesson introduces students to composite functions and includes notes, Thin sliced problems, Reflection page and Check Your Understanding problems.

4.Functions: Composite Discount Coupons: Application of linear functions and composite functions presented in a thought-provoking investigation using department store coupons.

5.Functions: Inverse Includes 4 pages of notes include finding the inverse functions using a table of values, using an equation, and using graphs (reflected over y=x).Includes a Reflection page for notes with scaffolding and Check Your Understanding problems.

6.BONUS! Functions: Inverse Domain and Range Addresses the issue of restricting the domain of a quadratic function so that both the original function and inverse meet the definition of a function.

Understand that a function is a rule that assigns to each input exactly one output. The graph of a function is the set of ordered pairs consisting of an input and the corresponding output.
Compare properties of two functions each represented in a different way (algebraically, graphically, numerically in tables, or by verbal descriptions). For example, given a linear function represented by a table of values and a linear function represented by an algebraic expression, determine which function has the greater rate of change.
Write a function that describes a relationship between two quantities.
