This packet contains scaffolded notes, a homework page, and an alternate thinking boards page that can be used in conjunction with the notes. This packet uses the idea of a gumball machine to introduce the idea of functions to students and to begin a discussion about each input having exactly one output. I like to bring in a gumball machine and have the students put in a coin and get out a gumball to begin the class. However, the materials can just as easily be used with out it.
