Share

Description

Fundamental Foundations is a method that progresses and challenges your students in a homogeneous setting!

FF 1: Beginner Set-Up - Viola

Students first learn pizzicato for all open strings, all 1st, all high 2nd, all 3rd, and then all 4th fingers. A strong emphasis in note-reading and rhythm counting is developed from the first time your students learn with this method. With left-hand skills established, the focus of right-hand skills takes place. This section ends with the combination of skills in three key signatures, all notes that they have learned, and all rhythms.

Each unit includes a fingerboard chart for visual and tactile learners, as well as Ear Training pages to teach aural skills.

FF 2: First Position Patterns - Viola

Students transition to using key signature units in first position to continue their learning. By the end of this section, students will understand how to play in all finger patterns, a wide variety of key signatures/scales, multiple bowings, and have strong rhythmic abilities.

  • G Major, Staccato bowing
  • D Major, Hooked staccato bowing
  • C Major, Slurs
  • C Major: Upper Octave, Ties
  • F Major, 3-4 Time Signature
  • B-Flat Major, Review of concepts
  • E-Flat Major, Eighth note bowing
  • D Major: Lower Octave, Upbeats

Each unit includes a fingerboard chart for visual and tactile learners, as well as Ear Training pages to teach aural skills.

FF 3: Advanced Technique Appendix - Viola

You’ve made it through first position! Next up is shifting skills, third position, and two octave scales. YES, your beginning students can! This section is an amazing way to end your students’ first year of orchestra, and sets them up for success for playing in an ensemble the following year.
