Here is a wonderful bitmoji virtual learning space and FULL DISTANCE LEARNING ART PBL (Project Based Learning) unit that can be adapted for both synchronous and asynchronous instruction. This blended learning lesson challenges students to think about who they will be in 20 years. After you finish with this project, reuse the bitmoji classroom to make all your virtual learning art dreams come true! You can easily replace the framed pictures and text with resources for your next lessons. All the slides have "clickable" hyperlinks connecting to videos, a career quiz/search website, and various pages in the presentation.
Art Challenge - How can you, as an artist, show the world who you will be 20 years from now?
This lesson includes:
- - 4 pages of detailed teacher instructions
- - 1 page of steps for students to reference
- - Planning matrix
- - Process matrix (reflection)
- - 3 pre-made Padlets for you to make a copy of (all you need to do is create a free Padlet account and click the "remake" button) --- Make sure the privacy is set to "secret" and viewers can "write"
- - Illusion of depth techniques chart & video
- - A "homepage" with 7 hyperlinks to:
- - Introductory video through SafeYoutube for inspiration
- - Padlet prompting students to brainstorm a list of "need to knows" for the project's driving question - How can you, as an artist, show the world who you will be 20 years from now?
- - Who am I? Quiz
- - Career search
- - Planning matrix
- - Images for inspiration
- - Reflection
After the project is introduced, students are prompted to fill out a digital planning worksheet by making a copy in their Google drive. Then, they will complete 4 sketches and upload a picture to Padlet (free virtual tool where students can take pictures of their work using the camera on their device). If you would like, prompt students to give specific, kind, and helpful feedback to each other by having the students leave comments on each other's work. Students will then complete their final drawing, upload a picture, finish their reflection, and have a final critique. If you do not feel comfortable with using all these blended learning virtual tools, remove certain parts! This is a great introduction to how you can easily use Google Slides, Google Classroom, and Padlet to make your virtual art classes rigorous and successful.
I have taught this lesson for five years, but this is the first time I'm able to use all these fun virtual tools! I plan on using this project with my 6th graders, but it can easily be adapted for 4th - 12th grade. If you have any questions or need help, please don't hesitate to ask!
Sample of Teacher Instructions:
Before you use this with your class, you need to decide if you will be using Padlet and Google Classroom. If you do use Padlet, please "remake" your own versions of the samples I’ve linked to this presentation (Simply click the remake button on the top right of the screen). If not, remove the links and instructions. I suggest making a 2nd copy of this presentation to share with students. You can delete these instructions and share it with your students. Make sure you “Publish” it to the web.
SESSION #1: ***5 Session Directions Included****
