Description

Genre Inquiry Creative Writing Project

This is a long term creative writing project for students that really allows them to develop their skills as writers.

Students first pick a genre or writing format that interests them. Then, they spend time researching that format (history, text features...). Then, they pick three texts from within that genre to study. Finally, students create their own original piece that integrates their learning from their study.

My students loved this assignment. We ended with a gallery walk and share-out of everyone's pieces, and their final work was amazing!
