Looking for an assignment to work with a novel students are reading? Looking for an engaging way for students to dive into genre?

What is it that makes your novel fit into a certain genre? This assignment will help students consider the literary elements in their novel that connect to that genre. They will create a fake Instagram account on a Google Slides Template that belongs to one of their characters, identifying 2 plot events, 2 settings, and 2 character traits that help make it clear to them what type of genre this book falls into.

Template includes:

• Instructions page
• Brainstorming template (with an example from "The Giver")
• Front "Profile Page" template (includes section for them to summarize conflict, climax & resolution)
• 1 slide for each "post" x 6 (includes image, & sections for a quote from the novel + explanation of connection to genre)
• Copy of Rubric

This assignment works for distance learning, or in the classroom. Students are working on this over a two week period.
