Description
Are you thinking of genrefying your library? I did it, and it has made a world of difference in helping kids select books they enjoy and return to their favorite genres again and again.
I use nine color coded genres - fantasy, animal fiction, humorous fiction, scary fiction, realistic fiction, sports fiction, historical fiction, science fiction, and adventure/survival/mystery. I used Demco® Color-Tinted Glossy Label Protectors (1 1/4 inch by 3 1/8 inch) to color code the spine labels in my library. You can then add a sub-location in your catalog - such as Destiny - to know where each book can be found.
This product allows you to replicate my exact system by printing the signs exactly as I use them, or you can use the partially editable or fully editable slides in PowerPoint to create the signage that best suits the needs in your library.
The signs include an overall genre guide with all nine genres (I printed this poster size to hang in my library) along with individual genre signs for each section of your chapter book fiction.
You'll also get ready-to-print genre bookmarks that remind students of this color-coded system, or you can edit them to match your newly created system.
Additionally, I'll show you how to spotlight specific genres with a genre gallery walk where kids can explore and dig deeper into titles found within each genre. You'll receive a PDF and a PowerPoint file when you download the zipped file.
There are now genre bookshelves - printable shelves of suggestions from each of the nine genres. Edit to suit your needs and use titles from YOUR library.
There is now a new book spine sorting game that is also editable.
