"This was a fun activity to tie in our geometry unit with our Gold Rush unit. Their maps turned out great and I like that they all looked slightly different. The class enjoyed this activity and I appreciate the low prep!"

Early that morning, a California settler named James Marshall was building a sawmill along the American River, when something shiny caught his eye. It was a golden nugget about the size of a pea.

.

News spread like wildfire and the California Gold Rush was on.

This was a great extension project for my students who completed their unit math centers early. They were engaged and the directions were clear enough for them to complete the project independently.
