Description

Geometry Farm Project {Lines & Shapes}

For this project students will create and design their very own Farm using lines and shapes. This resource would be great as an extension activity in third grade or a review in fifth grade as well! It could also be used as a math center or a fun activity to help better understand Geometric lines and shapes.

Students will be able to:

  • Identify & Draw points, lines, line segments, rays, angles, parallel lines, and perpendicular lines.
  • Describe parallel and perpendicular lines.
  • Classify two-dimensional shapes using parallel and/or perpendicular line segments.
  • Classify shapes by their angles.

Student task:

When they create their farm, they will include all the things a real farm would need such as a house, barn, silo, animals, crops, etc. They may also include extra items, but only after they have all the essential buildings first.

Students will be drawing the following types of lines and shapes in their project:

parallel, perpendicular and intersecting lines

rhombus, rectangle, parallelogram, trapezoid, octagon, hexagon, pentagon equilateral, isosceles, acute, obtuse and right triangles

Before students create their final project, they will make a rough draft of their farm on graph paper. They will use the rough draft to sketch out where things will go on their final farm project.
