Geometry Shape Character Project – Hands-On Area Activity

Engage your students in a fun, creative, and standards-aligned geometry project that brings shapes to life!
This Geometry Shape Character Project challenges students to design a unique character (robot, monster, animal, alien—you name it!) using only specific geometric shapes. Then, they calculate and label the area of each shape, reinforcing geometry formulas in a hands-on, meaningful way.

✅ What's Included:

  • Project Instruction Sheet – with detailed requirements, creative tips, and clear expectations
  • Computation Sheet – students show all area calculations for triangles, rectangles, trapezoids, squares, parallelograms, and circles
  • Shape Guidelines – must use 12–15 total shapes, with at least 2 of each type
  • Creative Challenge – shapes must form a character (not just a design, flag, or house)
  • Samples of Student Work – included to guide and inspire your students

Math Skills Covered:

  • Area formulas for 2D shapes
  • Shape identification and classification
  • Problem solving with multiple-step computation
  • Visual-spatial reasoning

Perfect For:

  • Geometry unit enrichment
  • End-of-year project or review activity
  • Project-based learning
  • Math centers or stations
  • End-of-unit assessment
  • Creative homework or at-home assignments

‍ Teacher Tips:

  • Supply colored construction paper, scissors, glue, and rulers
  • Let students present their characters and explain their area work
  • Great for bulletin boards or hallway displays!

Make geometry unforgettable with this creative and educational project!
