Description

Need an activity to review rigid motions and totally engage your students? This is a hands-on project used to practice translations, reflections and rotations while discovering the patterns in the changing coordinates. Students draw, design and explore patterns in geometric transformations.

A rubric and answer key for this project are included. You should plan one to two class periods to complete this project.

Students will be completely engaged in drawing this tessellation and reinforcing geometrical transformations.

Verify experimentally the properties of rotations, reflections, and translations:
Understand that a two-dimensional figure is congruent to another if the second can be obtained from the first by a sequence of rotations, reflections, and translations; given two congruent figures, describe a sequence that exhibits the congruence between them.
Describe the effect of dilations, translations, rotations, and reflections on two-dimensional figures using coordinates.
