Angle Relationships: What's included?

  1. Guided Notes: BASIC ANGLE TYPES & ANGLE PAIRS
  2. Angle terminology reference sheet
  3. Angle pairs reference sheet/poster
  4. Finding unknown angle value practice/homework
  5. Finding unknown angle values task card
  6. Angle pairs project

1. Guided notes: Reviews basic angle types (obtuse, acute, and right). & guided notes on angle pairs- supplementary, vertical, complimentary, and adjacent.

2. Angle terminology reference sheet- includes 12 images of different angle terms (bisector, vertex, perpendicular, parallel, intersecting, congruent, 3 angle types, and 4 angle pairs)

3. Angle pairs reference sheet- for students to use a legend to color the according angle pair. Can be used as a poster/reference sheet throughout the lesson.

4. Practice worksheets- (finding unknown angle values using angle relationships)

5. 18 task cards (small and medium size)- questions revolve around finding unknown angle values, estimating the value of a provided angle, identifying angle type/pair, using angle terminology, and more.

6. Angle pairs project: Students are given or choose a shape. They have to closely follow the instructions by drawing 6 straight lines (3 must be intersecting) then they have to find the value of 10 angles and identify 3 to describe using angle terminology. **Example & rubric included**

I found a few misleading definitions and/or diagrams. And because of this, I felt I couldn't really use all of the materials. For example on the task cards #11 says to find angle <MOP. However the picture that corresponds to this problems the angle has a vertex at M not O, also this < is a less than symbol which is not the correct notation for angles. I do think it is important to use the correct symbol. Also on Angle terminology, you define an angle bisector as a line that cuts the angle in half, but you have it drawn as a ray. It should be defined as a ray that cuts an angle in half, if you are using a ray in the diagram. Similar on the Vertex definition, although you can use lines to define angles, and vertex, but I feel the diagrams should match. I would also suggest that you should complimentary and supplementary angles also as non-adjacent angles, if you only use adjacent angles to define these angle pairs, students can develop a misconception that they are always adjacent.

I used this for 3 class periods while I was away on a field trip. The students seemed to understand the concepts of naming angles, complementary angles, and supplementary angles as well as solving to unknown angle measures. There were some errors in the answer key/ Some students pointed out that angles that were acute/obtuse were not labeled with reasonable measures. There was also an error with the measure of congruent angles that did not line up with the answer key.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. While there shouldn’t be any errors, unfortunately it happens even after careful review before posting. Thankfully I can fix the mistakes and hopefully nobody else will experience the discrepancies between answer key/product. I will send update once fixed. Thanks again!
