Do you need something MORE to allow independence with Geodes for your young readers?
They may be newer readers, but first graders can annotate texts, too! Middle and high school teachers often require students to annotate texts as a way to enhance their understanding of the material. Annotation helps students engage more deeply with the text by encouraging them to actively interact with the content, make connections, and ask questions. By guiding students’ annotation in the foundational years of learning to read, students will learn to think critically about the content while applying their newly learned Fundations skills and content of Wit & Wisdom.
Supplement your Geodes instruction with “I Can Annotate!” activities, where students will apply their decoding and fluency skills from Fundations with their vocabulary and content knowledge in Wit & Wisdom in a whole new way!
Every “I Can Annotate!” activity provides independent experiences with each Geodes text, with specific instructions for annotation and written response. TWO VERSIONS INCLUDED: both one page and 2 page versions for more room to annotate and respond.
These activities will allow your students the practice needed to sharpen their decoding and fluency skills and expand their knowledge by diving deeper into each Geode, just like the “big kids” do!
