Description
This is a good way to introduce graphing and data collection while getting to know your class and the students within without "wasting a day". Students can start to learn x and y axis, scales/intervals, labels, and also info about their classmates. Students can survey the class and get creative as long as the survey question has 3 clear answer choices. I always print a hardcopy for students (4 PP slides into a front/back worksheet).
The download is a PowerPoint file in which teachers first can model a sample survey question and bar graph together with students with slides 1 and 2. II usually display a worksheet that goes with it and go around the room getting to know students' names while asking them the survey question. We make it funny:) Slides 3 and 4 are for students to get as creative as they want with their own survey question/data collection. After the data is collected and time is given to go around/socialize some, one will need to make a new bar graph at their own desk. Some students may need to change the scale to go up by 2s depending on the data that is collected. FYI
