Description
This is a Gingerbread Christmas/Holiday Themed Math and Literacy BUNDLE. In this Bundle you will find a Math Perimeter,Area and Money project and Persuasive Writing activities.
This is a NO PREP holiday/Christmas themed math unit project for students that touches on Area, Perimeter and Money. Students will build a gingerbread house with different features and amenities. Students will measure the perimeter and area of their house. Students also have to keep in mind the costs for each room in their house, including the costs of amenities, furniture, fences and their yard areas. This project is great for solidifying and finalizing the skills they have learned.
Perimeter and Area Christmas Math Project
This Unit Project includes:
- Adding Costs for furniture, amenities, rooms and yards.
- Creating and finding the area and perimeter of their house and rooms.
- Calculating the final costs of their entire house
- A final checklist for students to make sure they have completed their project and shown their work.
- An easy to use teacher scoring system out of 30 points
As a teacher you also have the power to make the assessment as simple or complex as you choose! You can create a budget that students have to follow. You can create a limit or minimum amount of rooms they need to have for the house. You could even have students make 3D models of their home! Whatever works best for your students!
* Please Note: This project uses the metric system to calculate area and perimeter (meters)
Gingerbread Persuasive Writing & Media Literacy
This is an engaging persuasive writing brochure for Christmas tied to the Ontario Media Literacy Curriculum!
Students must try and sell their amazing gingerbread house - all while keeping in mind their audience and buyers. They are encouraged to use persuasive language and imagery when writing about their gingerbread house in their brochures. Students are given blank templates of the house, both inside and outside, and they can decorate as they see fit for their audience. You as the teacher can even take it one step further and have them construct their own 3D gingerbread house! This project is great for tying into Media Literacy curriculum and allows for flexibility depending on your classroom.
I hope you love this writing activity as much as my students do!
