Use exit slips as formative assessments in your classroom. These are great for creating flexible groupings for guided math and identifying students who need intervention. Each slip includes a quick problem or two and student reflection piece with levels of understanding.
A few tips for your use:
Use after your whole group lesson to form small groups for the day or as a “homework check.” Problems for each lesson have been created to be similar to those in the Lesson Check of the Student Edition but with different numbers and information.
Student reflection
After solving the problem for the lesson’s exit slip, students shade in the emoji matching the level of understanding. I tell my students to shade the first face if they feel they need reteaching, the second if they feel like they could do the work with some support, and the last if they could independently complete their work.
