Description

Here is a professionally written, well crafted, tried and tested math lesson plan. This lesson plan is based on the First Grade/ 1st Grade "Go Math" textbook, Chapter 1 - lesson 1.4, which is titled "Problem Solving - Model Addition." It is also aligned with the Envision Mathematics Topic 3 Lesson 7, which is titled "Problem Solving - using objects."

Common core standards covered in this lesson are: standard —1.OA.A.1 and also 1.OA.D.7. Additionally, I have included links to a warm up video and a bonus Power point presentation for your convenience.

Included are links to worksheets that are similar to the reteach and enrich worksheets suggested in the Go Math teacher's guide. You would have to click on the link included in your lesson plan file to download the reteach and enrich freebies.

If you are using the Go Math textbook then it's assumed that you own the teacher resources since this is usually sold as a package to your school. In the event that you do not have access or a subscription to the ThinkCentral portal, I have added links to my own comparable resources. Just follow the links to my webpage and download the sheets and answer keys for free.

The reteach and enrich worksheets I created follow the same style of questioning used in the reteach and enrich resources provided by the Go Math publisher, Harcourt.

The lesson plan is a word document and it is customizable and editable. However, it is ready to go and all you need to do is add your name and date.

What's Included:

3 pg. lesson plan

2 pages of differentiation sheets

2 pages of answer keys

31 slides PowerPoint Presentation

1 YouTube Video (Especially created for this lesson)

The Exit Tickets mentioned in this lesson plan are not included in this purchase. You would have to either create your own, or you may consider purchasing a set of exit tickets at the link provided below. Each file of Exit tickets covers all the lessons in the entire chapter. So in other words if you buy 8 lesson plans, you would only need to buy the exit ticket file once or you can visit my store for a lesson plan bundle which would include all eight plans plus the exit tickets.

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
Apply properties of operations as strategies to add and subtract. If 8 + 3 = 11 is known, then 3 + 8 = 11 is also known. (Commutative property of addition.) To add 2 + 6 + 4, the second two numbers can be added to make a ten, so 2 + 6 + 4 = 2 + 10 = 12. (Associative property of addition.)
Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10. Use strategies such as counting on; making ten (e.g., 8 + 6 = 8 + 2 + 4 = 10 + 4 = 14); decomposing a number leading to a ten (e.g., 13 - 4 = 13 - 3 - 1 = 10 - 1 = 9); using the relationship between addition and subtraction (e.g., knowing that 8 + 4 = 12, one knows 12 - 8 = 4); and creating equivalent but easier or known sums (e.g., adding 6 + 7 by creating the known equivalent 6 + 6 + 1 = 12 + 1 = 13).
