This checklist can be used for daily assignments, weekly tests, or end of year tests. Before I started using this, I explained each criteria to the students and demonstrated them. I showed them what sitting up and go for it meant. We agreed that if they are slouched back in their chair or have their head laying down on the desk they are not giving their best effort. Also, I wanted to make sure they knew they are not "in trouble" if they don't do one of these. I simply write something in the comment section such as "finished 5 minutes early and closed test". That way when I check over it later and I see that they have left one of their answers blank I can show them the importance of using the whole time and checking over their work. At the end of the week if students did not follow directions they will be given "extra practice" which can include taking that extra time to go over the test, underline their answer in the text, bubble neatly, etc. while the other students are given free time.
