Updated 6/8/25 – New Google Slides presentation, lessons have been updated to reflect changes in Google Docs. ALL Lessons are digital and editable.

10 Google Docs activities & lessons are great introduction lessons and activities to teach students how to use Google Docs and practice and apply what they are learning as each activity reinforces previously learned skills. These activities will teach your students the basic foundations for using Google Docs. Lessons include: Font Style, Font Size, Font Color, Text Effects – Bold, Italics, Underline, Cut, Copy, Paste, Paint Format, Text Alignment, Line Spacing, Bullet & Numbered Lists, inserting & resizing pictures, wrap text, Picture Borders, WordArt, Text Boxes, Creating Tables, Spell Check, Undo, Redo. Lesson 10 allows students to demonstrate what they have learned when they create a Travel Flyer. An animated Google Slides presentation (view only) is included to demonstrate how to use many of the formatting features.


Each activity/lesson includes step-by-step directions and is approximately 30 minutes. Great lessons for a Computer Class or Classrooms in which the teacher is also teaching technology.

Google Slides Essential Skills Includes:

Google Slides Animated Presentation to teach many of the skills.


Activity 1 – Basic Formatting begins with a presentation showing students how to change font style, font size, font color, bold, italics, underline, text alignment, line spacing, numbered list and spell check. After viewing the presentation, students complete the activity.

Activity 2 – Font Color – This activity reinforces Font Color and demonstrates how to format Font Color two ways. First by changing the words as they type, and then selecting words to apply Font Color.

Activity 3 – Seasons Formatting - Students will learn how to insert, resize, and apply text wrapping to pictures as well as applying text alignment and font sizes.

Activity 4 – Creating My First Table activity teaches students to create a table, format text alignment within cells, merge cells, change row height and shade a cell. Pictures are also added to the table to reinforce inserting and resizing pictures.

Activity 5 – Cut, Copy & Pasting Activity – Students will learn how to cut, copy and paste in order to move and copy text within a document.

Activity 6 – Teaches students to use the Paint Format tool in Google Docs and apply a variety of formatting to text. The Paint Format saves time because it quickly formats text with a few clicks of the mouse. This activity really impresses students! This activity can be be shared with students.

Activity 7 – Students create a picture collage using WordArt, text boxes, and picture borders.

Activity 8 – Student create and edit a Numbered List.

Activity 9 – Students format a paragraph using the formatting features they have learned.

Activity 10 – Students use their own creativity to create a Travel Flyer using formatting features they have learned.

Teacher Directions and MOST Answer Keys are also included.

1.c - Students use technology to seek feedback that informs and improves their practice and to demonstrate their learning in a variety of ways.

6.b Create original works or responsibly repurpose or remix digital resources in new creations.

These lessons are so detailed and amazing! I found that what the past teacher who taught this class left was a little advanced for this group. And I'm so happy that these are just at what they needed. I can also add in more activities for things that I know they need extra help with. The best part would definitely be how easy it is to make copies for Google Docs.
