Description

About This Resource:

This is a Google Forms Quiz on determining whether a provided function is linear or nonlinear. The instructions are easy to follow for you to make a copy of the quiz to your Google Drive. Then you can assign to your students using Google Classroom or some other method.

Questions on this assessment were carefully created to give our students the best practice on the following standard.

8.F.3 - Interpret the equation y = mx + b as defining a linear function, whose graph is a straight line; give examples of functions that are not linear.

What's Included:

TPT has partnered with Google to automatically make a copy of my Google Form quiz into your Google Drive.

Using this with distance learning:

The main challenge that my colleagues and I were having with distance learning, was how do we assess students? You can use Google Forms quizzes to assess their learning. You can set the settings to not give students the answers and this will help limit any cheating from home. I personally am using Google Forms in almost every lesson with our distance learning.

Interpret the equation 𝘺 = 𝘮𝘹 + 𝘣 as defining a linear function, whose graph is a straight line; give examples of functions that are not linear. For example, the function 𝘈 = 𝑠² giving the area of a square as a function of its side length is not linear because its graph contains the points (1,1), (2,4) and (3,9), which are not on a straight line.
Compare properties of two functions each represented in a different way (algebraically, graphically, numerically in tables, or by verbal descriptions). For example, given a graph of one quadratic function and an algebraic expression for another, say which has the larger maximum.
Distinguish between situations that can be modeled with linear functions and with exponential functions.
