Description

This unit introduces students to Gothic fiction and contains a variety of activities and assessments. Students will learn about Gothic fiction, analyze literary elements, analyze images, compare texts, conduct research, explore a sub-genre (southern Gothic), and produce their own text (essay/review/article/story) at the end of the unit.

This unit will take approximately 3 weeks to complete, but can easily be shortened depending on the amount of time available.

This unit includes:

- Full unit plan

- Introduction to the Gothic (with images)

- Story questions for "The Cask of Amontillado"

- Story questions for "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" (marking guide included)

- "Sleepy Hollow" film study (requires access to the 1999 version of the film starring Johnny Depp) (marking guide included)

- Free write activity

- Literature circles group assignment (marking guide included)

- Southern Gothic webquest

- Story questions for "A Rose for Emily" (marking guide included)

- Image analysis activity

- Gothic fiction research assignment (marking guide included)

- Final assignment - students produce an essay/review/feature article about a topic related to the Gothic genre, or students can write their own original Gothic story (marking guide included)

This bundle includes a print version, and a digital version that is compatible with Google Classroom and can be used for distance learning.
