Description

These Grade 3 math task cards are designed to help students build a strong understanding of multiplication and division through models, equations, and explanations.

Rather than focusing on fact memorization alone, students are encouraged to show their thinking and make sense of multiplication and division situations using equal groups, arrays, and word problems.

This resource includes:

• 20 task cards focused on Grade 3 multiplication and division concepts

• Color and black-and-white task card versions

• Student recording sheets to support models, equations, and explanations

• Learning Target + Success Criteria

• A teacher data tracking sheet for formative assessment

• Clear teacher directions for classroom use

These task cards are flexible and can be used in a variety of instructional settings, including:

• Math centers

• Small group instruction

• Intervention or enrichment

• Whole group guided practice

• Early finisher activities

Students are asked to:

• Represent multiplication and division using models or drawings

• Write equations that match their models

• Solve for the correct total or number of groups

• Explain their mathematical thinking using words and numbers

This resource aligns with Grade 3 Operations and Algebraic Thinking standards and supports conceptual understanding of multiplication and division.

Please note:

This download includes multiple PDF files for easy printing and organization.

This resource is provided as a ZIP file containing multiple PDF documents for easy organization.

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Interpret products of whole numbers, e.g., interpret 5 × 7 as the total number of objects in 5 groups of 7 objects each. For example, describe a context in which a total number of objects can be expressed as 5 × 7.
Interpret whole-number quotients of whole numbers, e.g., interpret 56 ÷ 8 as the number of objects in each share when 56 objects are partitioned equally into 8 shares, or as a number of shares when 56 objects are partitioned into equal shares of 8 objects each. For example, describe a context in which a number of shares or a number of groups can be expressed as 56 ÷ 8.
Use multiplication and division within 100 to solve word problems in situations involving equal groups, arrays, and measurement quantities, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
