Description

This task asks students to read two articles related to birds then write an imaginative story about what happens when you shrink, fall into a bird’s nest, and find yourself as part of a bird family, using information from the articles to improve the story. Great practice for the SBAC ELA Performance Task. For scoring, use the Grade 3 CAASPP Narrative Writing rubric (not included, you can Google this).

Met expectations
Great value
Standards-aligned
This was a great way to practice for the Narrative writing portion of the SBA. The prompt was engaging, but the wording caused a bit of confusion. Some students weren’t sure whether their character was supposed to intentionally shrink to the size of a bird, or if the story should begin with the character researching birds and then suddenly shrinking. Clarifying that sequence would make it even stronger.
