Description
Interactive notebooks allow students to organize their learning in creative, individualized ways, ensuring their complete understanding. In the Everyday Math program, students are expected to think at higher levels, analyze, reflect, and explain their reasoning and these notebooks give them a platform to do all of those things and more.
Research shows that graphic organizers are an important part of student learning. Students are more likely to understand and remember the content being taught when having a visual representation of the material. These notebooks also assist students in finding the main idea in each lesson, helping them see the “big picture” in each lesson.
These notebooks are extremely helpful for students, parents, and teachers. Students who are absent or who miss class for other reasons are able to quickly catch up and see the important points of each lesson. Also, students who have difficulty with math are able to remove the fuzzy details from each lesson and get right to the most important parts of the lesson. Parents love these notebooks because they allow them to see how Everyday Math teaches the various algorithms and concepts in quick, easy, manageable terms. Finally, teachers love these notebooks because assistants and classroom helpers are able to use the same language and same methods as the classroom teacher, creating a uniform language in the math classroom.
Included in this notebook is at least one graphic organizer/note page for each lesson, along with a typed oral and slate assessment, a unit study guide, and 3 constructed response questions for students to complete in preparation for their written assessment. It follows the Everyday Math lessons closely, but also includes additional strategies and information I felt pertinent for my students' understanding.
I hope that you enjoy this interactive notebook for unit 5. I will be adding one notebook for every unit, along with the teacher answer keys, so please check back frequently. I’d love to hear your feedback! Thanks for your download!
