Description

The Grade 4, Unit 17: Coding Skills Unplugged resource is designed to review and introduce coding concepts to students in an unplugged manner. This supplemental resource features math chats, vocabulary posters, lessons and activities that reinforce previously taught concepts in earlier grades as well as new concepts based on the 2020 Ontario Mathematics curriculum.

There is no digital version of this resource available. The activities, assessments and lessons are meant to be printed and used in the in-person classroom.

Specific Expectations

This resource is aligned with the Ontario 2020 Mathematics curriculum. The specific expectations this resource addresses are:

  • C3.1 Solve problems and create computational representations of mathematical situations by writing and executing code, including code that involves sequential, concurrent, repeating, and nested events
  • C3.2 Read and alter existing code, including code that involves sequential, concurrent, repeating and nested events, and describe how changes to the code affect the outcomes

Lessons Included

The lessons included in this resource are three main parts, with additional subsections. The main portions of the lesson include minds on, action, and lesson consolidation.

  • Lesson 17.1: Reviewing Coding
  • Lesson 17.2: Concurrent Events
  • Lesson 17.3: Repeated Events
  • Lesson 17.4: Nested Events (1)
  • Lesson 17.5: Nested Events (2)
  • Lesson 17.6: Reviewing Coding Knowledge

Each lesson takes approximately 50 - 60 minutes to complete. Students gain an understanding through group discussion, both whole and small-group.

I absolutely love this seller's resources. I have bought all the units available for this grade and grade 3. I will be buying any that are available in my new grades next year as well. It is clear and easy to follow and gives students great practice when I project the pages onto the board. I would love if this seller made slides as well!

I love the math units from Teaching in a Wonderland. They are easy to implement, contain wonderful lessons and the follow up activities are varied, accessible and appropriate for the students. I have used these resources when teaching grade 2, 3 and 4 and will continue with each grade I am working with.

I have used many of the math units from this seller for various grades. They are always well planned and the students enjoy the practice pages. I like the math chat, anchor charts, and learning goals mini-posters for each lesson.
