Description

If you need an algebra unit to math the New 2020 Math curriculum whether for remote learning, in-class or homeschooling this is a hands-on unit that begins to explore higher math. Do you need digital items to teach patterning and have no idea how to do this? Need to be able to use something interactive and yet still reach your students in an easy way? If you need something for a quick review for homeschooling or to address gaps in learning this is perfect.

This is the perfect unit for you to teach patterning in an easy, understandable, sequential way!

The lesson is structured so that each concept is presented as students are ready for it. Students are introduced to new concepts slowly and their understanding is scaffolded by interactive virtual algebra tiles, math notebook entries with tips and diagrams, math tools like multiplication charts and examples of explanations. Every student, even your modified students can begin to access these lessons. The lessons begin at the grade 3 level as you get all my grade 3-4 package included in this resource.

In the resource students will cover:

  • Writing expressions and equations
  • Turning patterns into equations
  • Creating Term/Value charts for patterns
  • Review of Multiplicative Patterns
  • Composite Patterns
  • Creation of Patterns to Match Rules
  • Isolating Variable Equations
  • Graphing Term and Value Charts
  • Adding Monomials (with hands-on tools!)
  • Over 40 different practice worksheets! (with answer keys)
  • Scaffolded worksheets included for those at different levels
  • 5 different digital quizzes that progress sequentially (you can print these)

Your worksheets can be used as exit tickets, review, extra practice or even printable quizzes. There are far too many to use in a unit so you will have extra if you teach the same students again.

This is a detailed walk-through of my unit (link to YouTube video outlining the product)

Many of the lessons also include practice quizzes that are labeled to be given at the end of the lesson. These quizzes are self-marking and can easily be used to assess student understanding and progress.

Also included is a piece of my grade 7 on isolating variables in equations. If you have some students that need additional extension this is definitely for them! For this lesson, I'm also uploading a video that you can attach in classroom teaching the lesson for these concepts. Zero teaching needed for you on that lesson.

Patterning Centres (easy task cards to use with scaffolded skills)

Entire Year of 5/6 Math (will save money overall no need to supplement)

Happy Buyers Have Said:

"I am using this unit currently and cannot say enough good things about it! The way it is played out allowed me to catch any confusion on the day it happens instead of at the end of the unit. It is amazing how it is in slides because then my whole class can work on the same document and I can call on different kids to do different roles or questions. I also love how there are quizzes embedded that aren't too long so that I can constantly be checking for understanding. I will definitely use this person and their work again Thank you! It has been a lifesaver! 10/10"

These resource was very helpful to use in class and also to post for students learning from home - really alleviated the stress of having to plan for both models.

Generate two numerical patterns using two given rules. Identify apparent relationships between corresponding terms. Form ordered pairs consisting of corresponding terms from the two patterns, and graph the ordered pairs on a coordinate plane. For example, given the rule “Add 3” and the starting number 0, and given the rule “Add 6” and the starting number 0, generate terms in the resulting sequences, and observe that the terms in one sequence are twice the corresponding terms in the other sequence. Explain informally why this is so.
Write, read, and evaluate expressions in which letters stand for numbers.
Write expressions that record operations with numbers and with letters standing for numbers. For example, express the calculation “Subtract 𝘺 from 5” as 5 - 𝘺.
