**This project is designed to meet Ontario curriculum expectations for Grade 6 Science in the Earth & Space Systems strand but could be used by teachers in other regions who are working with a similar curriculum**
Greetings from outer space!
In this project, students are asked to assume the role of an alien from another planet. After gathering facts about their planet through research, students write letters to earthlings to describe their home planet. When students have completed their letters, an alien conference is held for students to share their work with each other.
This assignment could be used as a project within your space unit or as a summative task upon completion of your study of space.
Included is:
*An assignment sheet with instructions for students
*A graphic organizer for gathering facts during research
*A letter-writing template
*A rubric based on Ontario curriculum expectations
The project satisfies the following learning goals:
*use scientific inquiry/research skills to investigate scientific and technological advances that allow humans to adapt to life in space
*explain how humans meet their basic biological needs in space
*use appropriate science and technology vocabulary in oral and written communication
*use a variety of forms to communicate with different audiences and for a variety of purposes
*identify components of the solar system and describe their physical characteristics

This is a helpful resource. Easy to implement, and students enjoyed it.
My students had fun writing a letter from a specific planet that they had researched. They created their own aliens. I used this as a science project and oral presentation.
