Description
GRADE 7 - BEST BUYS - FINANCIAL MATHEMATICS - COMPARING UNIT RATES - DIGITAL & PRINTABLE
This NO-PREP activity provides you with differentiated worksheets that teach unit pricing and how to compare products to determine 'best buys'.
Students use the INCLUDED shopping catalogue to answer questions on unit pricing and financial decisions.
There is a mini project where students have to 'go shopping', using the catalogue, to buy products required to host a dinner party. They use their knowledge of unit pricing to make financial decisions to stay within a budget and justify these decisions.
Using catalogues that you can pick up from your local grocery store already have unit pricing printed for each product advertised- taking away this important maths step!
The catalogue that you get within this resource has been specifically designed for students to use with these worksheets but can absolutely be used throughout your whole unit!
HOW TO USE IN THE CLASSROOM
The resource begins with Notes –including definitions, vocabulary, explanations, rules and/or algorithms needed for successfully learning the topic.
This section is designed to be taught explicitly and can be referred to throughout the lesson.
Practice problems and activities are included below the Notes section to be used for guided practice, slowly releasing students to continue independently.
The second page is designed to be completed by students independently.
A real-life scenario has been used for students to apply higher order thinking skills while understanding how these skills can be applied to authentic situations.
Also, a great activity for enriching conversations
The third and fourth page are to be completed with the shopping catalogue. Students become familiar with navigating the catalogue which prepares them for the ‘Best Buys’ Project.
Students use the catalogue to ‘go shopping’ for a list of items for a dinner party that they are hosting.
This is a great mini project that can be used as a diagnostic tool to gauge students understanding before completing the unit assessment task.
