About the Resource

This resource is aligned with the Ontario Mathematics Curriculum, from the revised 2020 curriculum document. This resource addresses the following specific expectations for number operations:

B2.2 understand and recall commonly used percents, fractions, and decimal equivalents

B2.5 add and subtract fractions, including by creating equivalent fractions, in various contexts

B2.8 multiply and divide fractions by fractions, using tools in various contexts

What to Expect

There are 4 Google Slide Lessons

  1. Adding Fractions with whole numbers, and other fractions with and without common denominators
  2. Subtracting Fractions with whole numbers, and other fractions with and without common denominators
  3. Multiplying Fractions with whole numbers, and other fractions with and without common denominators. This includes a Google Slide assessment for students, and a modified version for lower level students
  4. Dividing Fractions with whole numbers, and other fractions with and without common denominators

About the Lessons:

-In Google Side Format

-Videos of me teaching each strategy included in each lesson for each new strategy. Strategies include carious visual models and a number strategy for each operation

-The lessons have practice embedded in them

-Include some catchy math songs (some made by me, others from YouTube sensations!)

Bonus:

There is a Google Slideshow geared for modified learning when multiplying fractions by whole numbers and other fractions. This can be assigned on Google Classroom and students can work directly on the slideshow

Answers:

-Full answers are included for the lessons

-Some answers are included in the "notes" sections of the slides for student practice

-The multiplication Google Slide does not have solutions, because students might use different strategies (visual, area model, numbers only)

How to Use:

  1. Create an “assignment” on your Google Classroom
  2. Attach the student and select “Make a copy for each student”
  3. Now you will be able to see each child’s individual progress whether they are in your physical classroom or learning online.
  4. When teaching, you may choose to share your screen/project the slides and go through them as a class or individually assign them to students via Google Classroom

I created these lessons for my own grade 7 class, and hope it brings engaging learning for your class too!

Happy Teaching :)
