WHAT'S INCLUDED IN THE PROPORTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS UNIT?

LESSON PLANS

We have created lessons which correspond to each of the expectations of the Ontario curriculum. All lessons follow a 3-part format including expectations, learning goals, examples, minds on activities, action activities, extension/discussion activities, and consolidation activities. In some instances, there are two lessons to cover an expectation because of the depth and/or difficulty. I would suggest you move on at pace appropriate for your students.

  • Lesson 1: real-life proportional relationships
  • Lesson 2: problems involving proportions
  • Lesson 3: problems involving percents
  • Lesson 4: problems involving rates

GOOGLE SLIDES presentation for each lesson

I project these in my classroom for students to see. It reduces photocopies and makes life much easier because setup is done in advance.

STATIONS (CENTRES)

Give your students to work on the material in a different way. I use this an opportunity to spend some time with GUIDED GROUPS (Questions included) for the first half of the period and monitor/assess during the second half of the period. If you have a challenging class, this can a difficult routine to establish, but well worth the effort!

  • Guided station
  • Mental Math
  • Using Manipulatives
  • Aaron's Invention(Problem Solving)
  • (Media) Video Links

STUDY GUIDE and UNIT TEST (with answer keys). I give the students the STUDY GUIDE at the beginning of the unit and have them meet with me periodically before the test to ensure they understand the material

I HAVE... WHO HAS... game (Review of Proportions and Rates)

It has proven to be a great activity for content review and developing teamwork within my class

I simply dislike the necessity of opening up a dozen files to access materials. I dislike 12 files with 1, 2, or 5 pages. I prefer to open a 50 page document, review the file, gather what applies to my need, and move on. I also don't like combing through extraneous information that isn't relevant to a lesson. Even if the material is moderately engaging for students, I don't want to spend more time studying the material than it would take for me to create the lesson. I don't want to spend more time prepping for the lesson than the students do completing the lesson.

The lesson plans did not really include a detailed lesson. It was an example and an answer.

Hi, I appreciate that you chose our product and took the time to leave feedback. I have reviewed the lessons and added some more details to help with instruction and I will definitely keep it in mind as I make improvements in the future. Most of the feedback about grade the new grade 7 and 8 units has been very positive, but it is valuable to know what changes can be made to help teachers even more. If you have any feedback regarding the stations, study guide, test, report card comments, slide presentations, games, etc., I'd be glad to hear it as well. I hope that you will follow our store and consider our other products in the future.
