Description

In this activity, students are asked to create an equation given a real-world scenario. They must then graph the equation and label the slope and y-intercept. From the graph, students must determine a solution and write that solution as a full sentence. Finally students are asked a question about the graph they created.

Included is an answer key that provides sample answers. While each student should graph the same line, their solution points and sentences could be different.

This was a great resource for the students to see how a word problem, graph and equation all fit together/relate to one another. The students enjoyed it as well as they got to work together.

I found this difficult to use with 8th grade.

I liked how a small grid was included to graph each word problem. Some of the problems were too tricky for 8th graders to graph, for example where it isn't clear which interval should be used on a graph with a y - intercept of 45 and a slope of 60. A lot of these problems didn't fit well on the graph.

This was perfect to review with my students before break then allow them to have fun and create their own word problem with matching graph, table, and equation.
