Description
When I teach Greek and Latin roots, my goal is for students to do more than memorize a list. I want them to be able to apply their knowledge to decoding unfamiliar words and recognizing patterns in language. I created this unit to meet those goals. This unit includes directions and a grade sheet for a Power Point/Google Slides assignment, a practice worksheet with common Greek and Latin roots, and a quiz to assess students' understanding of the roots.
The PowerPoint/Google Slides assignment has students create a presentation with ten roots. Their table partner will have ten different roots, and they will teach one another.
The practice activity asks students to underline and define roots when used in words, as well as define the words themselves (not just the roots).
The quiz focuses on critical thinking and using roots to decode word meanings, not just matching definitions.
Please check out the preview to see what I mean! This unit was helpful for my students, and provided great practice. I also printed out individual slides that students made for a Greek and Latin Roots bulletin board.

The students liked the Power point assignment, and I like the complete list of requirements. The test is also clear and easy to use.
