Greek/Latin word stems have always been interesting to me but not my students. Until now. After a decade of teaching, my colleague and I have created a dynamic curriculum that gets kids excited, keeps us motivated, and has increased our summative assessment results significantly! Students have improved their vocabulary as well as their spelling! Their confidence has increased as they become word detectives!
This 2-3 week unit covers 12 word stems. It provides four activities total plus two summative tests, two modified tests, and two keys. The activities are centered on vocabulary research as well as different learning styles. We offer everything from kinesthetic movements activities to drawing to graphic organizers to the latest and greatest technology (both desktop and ipad).
