Description
I received great reviews from my students on this one!!
This is a fun project that emphasizes the need to compare prices while grocery shopping.
Part One: Collect Receipts and Data for 7 different grocery items
Part Two: Calculate Unit Rates for each of the 7 items
Part Three: Compare Unit Rates with classmates to see whose grocery items were the best value
Part Four: Summary & Reflection about skills learned, trends noticed, and overall understanding of unit rates and price comparisons
Rubric on page 5 includes Student Grade and Teacher Grade columns.
Students need to have basic skills for converting metric and customary units. I would suggest allowing 3-5 to complete the project. If your students haven't practiced converting units, and you're planning to use this as an introductory project, it might take upwards of 4-5 days. If your students have already practiced calculating unit rates, this activity will take significantly less time.
The Google Doc can be assigned through Google Classroom so each student gets their own copy.
