Description
Groundhog's Day is a great time to do a data collection project with your young learners. First, you'll introduce the groundhog by playing a "mystery animal" game where the children make guesses based on clues/facts that are revealed. Next, they will learn about his role as a "weather forecaster" as they make "prediction hats" and survey families to collect data around the question, "Will the groundhog see his shadow?" Finally, the class will work together to tally up the data, watch the news for results and draw pictures to document the outcome.
Included in this resource:
- 3-part lesson plan: Explore, Predict, Collect Data
- Who Am I? Mystery Animal Clue/Fact Cards
- Guiding question poster
- Full color photos of a groundhog
- “My prediction” hats for children to wear and share their predictions with others
- Pocket chart graphing cards to display and discuss prediction results
