Description

Do your students love to play quiz games? Are they studying the solar system? How many facts do they know about the planets and other objects in the solar system?

This Guess the Solar System PowerPoint™ Game may be just what you are looking for!

This PowerPoint presentation is a guessing game about the solar system. It can be played on the SMART Board, or just projected from the computer. Each click of the mouse (or tap on The SMART Board) reveals a clue. Students can change their answer or stick with their (or another student’s) answer. After the line, “What Am I?” is displayed, the next click reveals the answer.

I have included (black and white) handouts of the slides, which you can use for flash cards. The PowerPoint and PDF of the handouts are “zipped” together. Just “unzip” them to use.

Modification: For special education students, the teacher could create flash cards from the handouts, and give one or two of these to each student, before the "guessing" begins. They would have the "answers" right at hand.

These celestial bodies are included in the game: the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Saturn, Jupiter, Neptune, Uranus, dwarf planets, asteroids, comets, stars, black holes.

Clues about the various objects include:

  • Surface volcanoes erupt cold liquid nitrogen
  • Rusted iron rocks give it its red color
  • Charon, Ceres, and Eris are examples
  • Orbits the Sun quickly, in 88 days
  • These form after the explosion of a supernova
  • The sky is black, even during the day

Space was an easily accessible unit to do for science during distance learning and the kids loved it.
