"I had a group of very intelligent first graders. I was able to make a few edits and use this for that small group. I did have them with an adult to check in at times, but they were able to do complete this engaging packet (and were having so much fun!)"

How to Use

Students are tasked with designing their own menu for a Haunted Restaurant where Monsters and Ghouls of all kinds will order disgustingly delicious Appetizers, Salads, Entrees, Desserts, and Drinks!

Students design their own Menu by choosing gross and ghastly food items from the “Food Ideas for Your Own Haunted Restaurant” or they can make up horrible food combinations from their own imaginations! Once they choose the freaky food that will be offered in their Haunted Restaurant, talk to them about choosing prices that are REASONABLE. This is a perfect time to discuss whether drinks should cost more than an entrée, etc. Guide students to create a price for each item on their menu.

Students will then pretend they are the waiter taking the order of a Foul Creature (patron). They should choose items the creature would eat. They will record this on the Receipt paper.

The receipts were designed with differentiation in mind!

Receipt A: 5 addends (appetizer, salad, entrée, dessert, and a drink)

Receipt B: 4 addends (students choose what to include)

Receipt C: 3 addends (students choose what to include)

Receipt D: 2 addends (students choose what to include)

Simply give students the paper that best fits their skill level.

There is no answer key included, because students will be creating their own reasonable prices. Students will have two partners check their calculations and sign their receipts before they can finish.

Students then cut out each receipt and staple it in the middle on the inside of their menu.

Three different rubric choices are offered.

Some of the pages were very easy for my 4th graders. They completed the pages so quickly! I almost wish there was a line below each sentence to rewrite the entire sentence completely so that students are practicing that as well and not just crossing out a letter. I used this as a center page, which they completed very quickly so it left me scrambling to find another page or activity for them to use.
