I figured this would be a good 5-10 minute activity for my Kindergarten-3rd grade classes as a part of a few other Halloween-week themed STEAM activities. Instead, students spent the entire 30+ minutes engineering solutions to this activity. I used it as part of a discussion of constraints (materials, time), planning & prototyping, comparing/sharing ideas with classmates to improve initial designs, etc...and then added a quick "What is Engineering Design Process?" "What are Engineers?" videos if/when time allowed.
My students loved this activity during Halloween!!
