Description

This resource has been designed to use alongside a commercial, store-bought wooden Hamburger set (from Kmart NZ) and a basic grid mat. I used a sheet of felt and a permanent marker to make my grid.

Reinforce computational thinking, direction, sequencing/ algorithmic thinking and problem solving with this cute little set. Students lay out the hamburger pieces on a grid mat and record the step by step instructions to move around the mat and collect the items to 'make' their own burger.

Collect the pieces in order to make your burger. Record the 'code' as arrows for early learners, or letters (e.g. F= Forward, L=Left) for slightly older learners.

Extend the set with my coding arrow cards. Lay them out in sequence and get a partner to check your 'code'. Work together to debug any errors!

Designed to sit alongside the NZ Digital Technologies Curriculum.

Hamburger Coding is a fun and creative way to introduce coding concepts to students! Using the familiar and tasty idea of a hamburger helps break down sequencing, loops, and conditionals in a way that’s easy to understand and remember. My students enjoyed the hands-on approach and found it engaging, which made learning coding fundamentals more approachable. Perfect for beginners and great for classrooms looking to add a playful twist to coding lessons!
