We know that students need practice to retain what they learn about addition and subtraction, but who wants to give students page after page of problems? This activity provides the practice students need coupled with higher level skills like sorting, comparing, and categorizing.
Each heart has one addition or subtraction expression on it. Students will sort them based on the category you choose or create their own categories to organize them. They actually solve each expression several times each in the process of sorting them, giving them more practice than any worksheet offers. Even better, they can work with these expressions multiple times, sorting them a different way each time.
