Description

Looking to include some inquiry into your Anat & Phys class, or trying to hit HS-LS1-3 in a Gen Bio class? This is the perfect resource for you!

This inquiry lab has students design an experiment to test how a stimulus or activity affects heart rate--either increases or decreases it--and then analyze the data and share out the information in an informal poster session. This lab targets MANY important skills, and doesn't really require any background knowledge to complete. Skills include: experimental design, writing a CER, creating an appropriate graph, communication skills, and more- see the preview for a larger list.

If you have digital blood pressure monitors that also measure heart rate, they will be helpful for this lab. However, measurements can be taken manually (I actually have students practice that in the lab, and then use a digital monitor to compare accuracy). This can easily be a zero-equipment, zero-cost lab!

The lab is already formatted for use in Classroom. You can certainly use it without Classroom, and you can even modify them further to print as paper copies. Please note that regardless of how you plan to use them, you need a Google account to access the documents. This is just so you can obtain a copy of each sheet in your Google Drive. Once you have the files, you can convert them to Word, pdf, or modify them as you please.

These are my favorite resources for Anatomy & Physiology! I've taught the class since 2010, and it's been an ongoing goal to take a class that can be super heavy lecture-based and make it more interactive as often as possible. This bundle has some video guides for Crash Course videos that I use

This might be one of the best activities that I have purchased on TPT. I have done a Heart Rate Lab with my students before but I didn't like my directions. The way this activity is set up is perfect. It guides the students without overdoing it. My students were very engaged and definitely understood the concepts while being creative with their experimental designs. I highly recommend this activity.
