Description
This search-and-find phonological awareness activity is ideal for children who are building rhyming skills and can be used for early reading intervention. Students will have fun searching for hidden pictures as they practice recognizing and producing rhyming words.
For students who struggle with rhyming, the concept is made easier in several ways:
1. The games include some two-syllable rhymes, which are easier to hear and recognize.
2. Verbal repetition helps reinforce the concept.
3. Word endings are highlighted to help students understand that rhyming words sound the same (and are often spelled the same) at the end. This is a common challenge for children who are also learning beginning sounds. Bringing attention to word endings will help children transfer their knowledge of rhymes to phonics and spelling.
4. The hidden objects narrow down word choices, giving students a starting point for rhyme production.
5. Hidden objects games are incredibly engaging! Students will be motivated to find the hidden pictures that rhyme.
As a teacher, I have fun playing these types of games right along with my students. Here is a great opportunity to work on phonological awareness while having fun with your class!
