Is it a struggle to get your students engaged in problem solving? Are word problems always a challenge for your class? You may also know that the story problems that come with many math series do NOT engage our students--especially those who struggle.
These high interest word problem task cards may be just what you need! Each of the four sets of task cards was designed to help students become better problem solvers while working on all operations. Students learn how to make sense of problems, see what the problem is asking, and then choose the appropriate operation to solve it!
Each card has a super cool, “Did you KNOW that?” kind of question that can intrigue even the most reluctant mathematicians. Each set is a complete resource with 20 task cards in both color and black and white.
You can use print and laminate the colored cards or use the black and white for easy copying—even to glue right into math notebooks or use as homework practice. To help students with showing their thinking, students are also asked to write the matching number sentence for each problem.
Task cards are, by nature, flexible for teachers and low stress for students. No huge packets of problems--and tons of flexibility. Use for class warm ups, at math workshp or guided math stations, as a part of an intervention group, for fast finishers--or even more.
Students can solve the problems on white boards, in their math spiral notebooks, or recording sheets are included as well if you find that to be a good way for students to organize their work.
