Description
Home Sweet Home (Short Film Comprehension)
This resource could be used as a presentation for a whole class lesson or as a literacy group activity. It requires very little preparation which makes it a fantastic relief / substitute teaching resource too! It includes:
- Web links to film (internet access required)
- Super Six Comprehension Strategies (predicting, visualising, monitoring, connecting, questioning and summarising)
- Guiding questions for discussion before, during and after watching the short film
- Writing task ideas
I find short films to be a highly engaging tool to help students develop their comprehension skills. Many short films are wordless which means students really need to draw upon their abilities to predict or infer, question, monitor, visualise, connect and summarise the information presented in order to thoroughly understand the text.
FILM OVERVIEW
This is the story of a house which escapes from its suburban foundations and sets off on an epic journey. It is set in a universe where humans no longer exist or perhaps just aren't seen. The story is quite light hearted with themes of adventure and friendship, although it explores the concept of death at the very end.
