This mini-lesson/handout teaches students how to follow directives and find items within context. The first page instructs students to listen to the teacher tell them a story about ice-cream and answer the questions (younger grades - teacher should read story aloud, older grades - should be able to do independently). The worksheet then gives a story about Angie and her friends' adventure with making their own ice-cream. The story talks about everything they need to make it, and how they make it. Follow the story, it asks students to list what they need to make ice-cream. The next page asks students to list the events in order from first, next, and last what they did to make ice-cream. The last page lets students draw something they know how to do, then asks them to list the things they will need to do it. My students loved this activity, and I found that it really helped strengthen reading comprehension.
