"How To" Writing Checklist

Your students can use this easy-to-read checklist during the revision process - making sure to include a solid title, introduction, how-to steps, and conclusion for their "How To" writing. Educators may use the checklist to develop learning targets for lessons. Assign to your students on Easel, print one copy per student, or laminate for future use!

Checklist includes --

Title:

  • My "How To" has a title that matches the topic.

Introduction:

  • I hooked the reader with a question, description, or personal story.
  • I have a sentence that tells what I am teaching.
  • I listed all of the materials and items needed.

Steps:

  • My steps are in a logical order.
  • I’ve included a picture for each step.
  • I used time order words like first, then, next, and last.
  • My steps are clear and detailed.

Conclusion:

  • I wrapped up my writing with a closing.
