Description

Students love writing how-to papers. This product is a step by step approach to procedural writing for primary grades. It includes directions and graphic organizers designed for younger students.

Included are directions, 10 prompts, supporting graphic organizers, writing papers, and a completed sample.

The prompts include how to...
pop popcorn
eat a cookie
blow bubbles
make lemonade
plant a seed
make a sundae
prepare cereal
make a root beer float
make chocolate milk
make hot chocolate

It is so fun to provide the shared experience of actually doing these activities prior to writing about each one. This ensures that all your students have the background knowledge necessary to accurately sequence and include details about the steps. Making sundaes are always a hit!

The packet is appropriate for kindergarten and first grade. Struggling second grade students can benefit from the structured approach, as well. I just have different requirements for the different grades. For example, kindergarten students are required to write the basic steps, while my first graders are required to write more steps and details.

I have included blank pages so you may create your own prompts based upon what shared experiences you can provide for your students.

Not quite sure yet??? Click here to get How To Writing - Popping Popcorn freebie. You can try the popcorn prompt with your students.

Have fun writing!!! Your students may even thank you for this. :)

Awesome to have this in my collection of writing ideas. This is perfect for those expository writings. My kids love to be able to see the pictures and create the directions to what needs to be done. Thanks!
