Description
Solving word problems seemed to be the least successful part of any assessment my students took before. This year, I made teaching how to solve word problems one of my main objectives and focused on it all year long.
I mostly taught students to Read/Draw/Label each sentence. At the end, once they read the question, then they Solve it.
Here is an example for you:) You can change the name of the person with a name from your class and change the item name and the amount of money available, and the cost for each item. Keep practicing!
It worked for my students:) They were not scared when they took the end of the year test, and they didn't just pick the numbers and add them all up:) They actually understood each sentence, drew a picture to go with it, and then solved it.
