"This was a perfect way to start our paragraph unit. The concrete examples really helped students as we started writing our own paragraphs. Thank you!"

Description

A step by step, scaffolded approach to teaching your students a descriptive paragraph about an animal with a topic sentence, supporting sentences and closing sentences.

There are two writing models; Snow Monkeys and Puffins. Each model has a graphic organizer to aid students in deconstructing the paragraph. This process helps students to intuit the structure of a descriptive paragraph.

It draws special attention to a five-step writing process; brainstorm, draft, share, edit, revise and publish. There is a checklist to aid students in monitoring their progress through a writing process.

Revised and Updated on January 2024.
