Description

How to write a topic sentence for informational essay writing worksheet. This helpful worksheet walks students through 4 different styles of topic sentences for expository essays. Mentor sentences provide explicit examples. Students are then asked to create their own topic sentences following the 4 styles.

I use this graphic organizer in my class to teach students the fundamentals of writing a good topic sentence. I have them do this after they have researched a topic but before they begin their rough draft of their informational essay. Once students have practiced all 4 styles of topic sentences, they choose their favorite and use it in their own informational writing.

This worksheet/assignment is also available within my Informational Essay Workbook.
